John Stanback

John Stanback, PhD, is an internationally recognized leader in research and testing of innovative family planning practices.  He brings 30 years of research and policy experience to his role as Senior Scientist in the Health Services Research division of FHI 360.  Currently the Family Planning Advisor for USAID’s Advancing Partners and Communities (APC) project, Stanback’s principal research and policy interest is access to family planning services, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa.  USAID has twice recognized Dr. Stanback for his scientific contributions, naming him the first recipient of its Maximizing Access and Quality (MAQ) Award in 2000, and awarding him the Marjorie C. Horn Operations Research Award in 2013.  Stanback earned his doctorate in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is an adjunct professor in the Department of Maternal and Child Health.
